Character
Name: Leon D.S. Geeste
Source: Star Ocean Second Story
Age: 12
Species: Felpool
Requested Department Assignment: If they let him, Research'd probably be good. He's not bad battle support either once he's in the right mindset, if you want to chance for a possible field agent.
Personality:
A child prodigy, Leon was quick to be accepted amongst the royal Heraldry Research Division because of his amazing abilities and understanding when it came to developing weapons that would aid the kingdom of Lacour for defense against the new but growing threat posed by the mysterious Sorcery Globe. Working alongside his mother and father, the boy was pulled into the world of adults and had become used to being treated as such. It's because of this that Leon's a little spoiled, knowing that he's become a prized resource for the division, and as such, he has the tendancy to flaunt his superiority because of the respect he's earned from the king himself.
Despite all this, there is a side he keeps to himself. For all the praise and fame he's received, nothing will ever quite satisfy him as much as would such words of praise from his own parents. Leon is, after all, still very much a child, and is wont to feel loved by his parents and be able to act like his age. However this is something he never openly shows nor says. The work he'd been charged with was nothing menial and so required his utmost concentration, and to that end, he certainly wanted to do his best. It took the introduction of strangers to the kingdom that weren't familiar with his accomplishments to start breaking the wall he'd constructed around himself New experiences pulled him out of his comfort zone of the castle and into a world of dangerous monsters, and he learned that while it wasn't a bad thing to admit that he was afraid, that he could also try to be strong and help others if he was willing. Although only twelve years old, the boy while lacking in physical strength made up for it in his expertise in Heraldic arts, and though he is still relatively fresh in those skills being tried in battle, he's proven himself capable once he puts his mind to it.
Sometimes it's easy to forget he's just a child because he can act rather egotistical at times, but when things get too overwhelming for him, the act is easily broken. There's no point in trying to impress anyone in such instances, but while the easiest thing to do might be to run and hide, Leon's also grown up a little in that he's willing to try pushing aside his fear in order to help out if he thinks he can. This much has always been natural for him; he thrives on wanting to be of use to others. As a scientist, he loves to figure out how to make things work and to study new things, places included. What good would curiosity be if it wasn't insatiable?
Leon's a hard worker. He devotes his time and effort to whatever assignment or mission's been thrust into his hands. He certainly takes pride in that, as it's usually nothing that would be considered possible for a normal kid. It does get to his head sometimes, warranting his tendancy to look down on others, even if they are older than him. Sometimes his attempts to remain of cool composure, aka I-know-better-than-you-cuz-I'm-smarter-and-everyone-knows-it, get horribly blown off because he slips up every now and then. For instance, something doesn't go quite as he expects it to, or he just gets surprised in general. Really bad for his image. After all, the pompous little twelve year old is revealed to be just... a twelve year old. And since he hasn't gotten much experience on being treated as a kid, strangely enough, he's not used to it. It's sort of a backwards learning process for him. He hates it at first, and won't admit that inside, he really is a spoiled brat of a kid that just wants the attention. Fortunately he gets better, works a bit on his people skills (although he's still one with sharp comments when he sees fit), and accepts the help that's offered by others instead of trying to take it on by himself.
History, including how they encountered the Aegis Foundation:
Renowned for being a child prodigy in service to the king, Leon D.S. Geeste is introduced when problems arise in the kingdom of Lacour. The young boy had been in the process of developing a super weapon along with his parents and the rest of the research department in order to protect the kingdom from the inevitable threat of monsters that had recently become rampant in the land ever since the appearance of the Sorcery Globe. As the main designer of the Lacour Hope, a magical cannon-type weapon, the boy knew that they would need a suitable power source for it, and so prompting the king, sought out some strong warriors to assist him in traveling to ancient ruins where he knew existed energy stones suitable for such a purpose.
This is how he meets Claude, Rena and company, and marks the beginning of the changes Leon begins to go through. Accompanied by these fighters who had come from beyond Lacour, also concerned about the Sorcery Globe, Leon traveled to the ruins to find what was needed. It wasn't an easy trip nor uneventful for the group first had to deal with a giant monster before they were able to obtain the energy stone. Frightened by the creature, Leon is at first of little use, cowering in fear while the others do their best to defeat the thing. Their attacks get nowhere due to the monster's tough armor, but with some encouragement, Leon finally swallows his fear and jumps in to help them, casting one of his Heraldic spells, Acid Rain. This subsequently melts the creature's defenses, making it vulnerable to other attacks and eventually leading to its defeat. With the energy stone secured in their hands, the group returned back to Lacour in triumph, and not a moment too soon.
A fresh swarm of monsters from the Sorcery Globe had appeared and were making ready to attack the kingdom. While fighters and soldiers held the creatures at bay, Leon worked quickly with the rest of his team to get the Lacour Hope on line, and once it was prepared to fire, the weapon proved devastating as it cleared the hordes of monsters with a single blast. This success led them to transfer the Lacour Hope across the sea where it would be put to use against the main threat itself. Unfortunately things did not go as planned, for a stronger creature appeared, seeming almost amused at their creation. It wasn't long after that the ship bearing the weapon was completely demolished, and all those aboard, including Leon, his parents, and his newfound friends, were separated by the roiling sea.
Any Special Abilities and Notable Skills:
Despite his young age, Leon is quite an advanced thinker. Likely stimulated by his own parents' involvement in the Heraldic research department of Lacour, the boy certainly could have asked for no better a place or position to learn all that he could in the field. It's best to describe his work as a careful blend of science, technology, and magic. His understanding and ingenuity have been actively put into developing weapons as was called for when the threat of the Sorcery Globe became apparent.
In terms of Heraldry itself, the boy is no mere novice. He's obviously had extensive study and practice in the art, as he's mastered quite the variety of high level spells. Most of his Heraldry is purely for offensive/destructive purposes. Elemental-wise, he uses water/ice and darkness, but these are hardly the only spells in his arsenal. Many of his spells are good for a broad area effect, and a few are even downright frightening.
As an overview, he has many ranged attacks capable of shooting ice shards or blasts of dark energy in forms such as lightning or explosions. He can also cast a spell that causes an acid rain to fall. His best water-type spell can flush the area with a flood of water. The most devastating spell he knows (aptly called Extinction) can normally obliterate most weaker targets and cause considerable damage to others. Of course, as goes with any amount of spell slinging, the more use given, the quicker worn out, and more so with higher level abilities.
He does have a few support-class spells though! He can grant speed or make something slow down, and also manages a decent shield.
Leon's Heraldry also extends to a classification of void spells. He can summon a demon to attack, although only briefly, and only one at a time. Not sure that this would even work
Writing Sample:
It was both exciting and terrifying, but the boy felt that there wasn't a thing he couldn't do right now. Claude and the others were not far, and his mother and father were standing by as well. Soon they'd put an end to everything. They'd take care of those horrible monsters and their kingdom would be at peace.
Leon looked proudly at the large golden cannon that was mounted there on the deck beside him. A sudden shout jolted him out of his thoughts, and he looked towards the prow, hearing his mother and father's footsteps as they came to flank him. A dark cloud had appeared on the horizon over the waters ahead, and not of a mere storm. Hundreds and hundreds of them, monsters flying in the sky, bearing down towards their fleet. The soldiers aboard the other vessels were already getting into position. He saw Claude and the rest of his new friends doing likewise on their ship. He heard his mother say something about the cannon.
R-right. He couldn't be scared now, he had a job to do! They had to prep the cannon! Turning, the boy hurried to his position. One good blast would clear the way. The energy stone was ready. The angle was set. Chanting with his assistant, they set off the stone, powering up. "....Fire!!"
The next series of events happened so quickly, a chaotic trainwreck of everything going wrong. The cannon had failed. The stone was taken. The ship splintering and heaving beneath their feet. All he could hear were the sounds of panic around him, and all he felt were his parents arms wrapped tightly around him. He couldn't see a thing, his eyes were shut, refusing to look. He felt his stomach drop, the solidness of the floor beneath his feet suddenly vanishing. Cold hit him, and he was soaked to the bone, and just before he lost consciousness, he realized one chilling thing-
...he was alone.
Do you understand that this game is serious, and that horrible and unfair things might happen to your character?

Questions/Thoughts/Comments:
I know the magic rules stuff so I'll keep things toned down, spell-wise. Regarding the void/demon magic, shall we null it or ..?
